Conwy County Borough Councillor Peter Lewis MBE was elected as the new Chair of the North Wales Fire and Rescue Authority at the Annual Meeting held at Conwy’s Council Chamber in Bodlondeb earlier today (Monday 17th June).

Councillor Lewis has been a member of the Fire and Rescue Authority since 2012.

On his election to serve as Chair of the Authority for the next 12 months, Councillor Lewis thanked members for their vote of confidence and paid tribute to the former Chair, Denbighshire County Councillor Meirick Lloyd Davies, for his contribution as a member of the Authority since 1999.

Councillor Lewis said: “I am pleased to take on this role having previously served as Deputy Chair. I have a proven track record as a true advocate of the Authority and look forward to ensuring we work effectively together to safeguard the best protection possible for the public of North Wales.”

Anglesey County Councillor Dylan Rees was elected as Deputy Chair of the Authority.

On taking on this role, Councillor Rees said: “I am grateful for the support of members. I have been a member of the Authority for two years and, being relatively new, acknowledge that I am still learning. I look forward to working alongside the Chair as a committed advocate, ambassador and defender of the Authority.”

Wrexham County Councillor Brian Apsley was elected as Chair of the Authority’s Audit Committee, with Flintshire County Borough Councillor Owen Thomas elected as Deputy Chair.
