Woman rescued from Gronant home

Posted

An 81 year old woman was rescued by firefighters from her Gronant home this morning after Galw Gofal / Care Connect alerted North Wales Fire and Rescue Service (NWFRS) to a fire in her home.   Crews from Rhyl and Prestatyn were called to the property shortly after 4.35 am this morning, Saturday 13th August, and information provided to NWFRS Control from Galw Gofal / Care Connect was passed on to the responding crews which in turn helped them carry out a swift rescue of the woman and her two pet dogs from the property.     She was immediately taken to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd by the Welsh Ambulance Service and her condition has improved and she is now alert and speaking with medical staff.

Firefighters extinguished the fire quickly and prevented it spreading any further.

The fire is currently being investigated to establish the cause.

Group Manager Gavin Roberts, who attended the scene, said: "The early notification to North Wales Fire and Rescue Service this morning from Galw Gofal / Care Connect of the fire in the property enabled us to quickly mobilise crews to the scene.  Once on scene the crews rapidly entered the property and rescued the occupier, her two dogs and extinguished the fire. Had there not been the early notification of a fire by the smoke alarm this incident could have been far worse and underlines the importance of fitting and maintaining working smoke alarms”.

“Additionally, this incident also highlights the benefit of Galw Gofal / Care Connect. We have been working with community alarm system providers across North Wales for a number of years, and are currently working towards upgrading systems across the region using Welsh Government funding.”

Galw Gofal / Care Connect provide a bilingual 24/7 call monitoring service, whose aim is to help protect vulnerable people in their own homes or in the workplace by offering an accessible call monitoring service that promotes safety, security and independence.
