Appeal to Report Deliberate Firestarters in Wrexham Area

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service and North Wales Police are again appealing to residents across Wrexham to be on their guard and to report deliberate firestarters following another two incidents in the area.

The first incident occurred at 05.32hrs on Wednesday 11 April on Piercy Avenue in Marchwiel where a car was deliberately set alight. Police and fire officers are appealing for help to identify those responsible.

Andy Robb from North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: "This incident comes after a spate of car fires in the Wrexham area recently. Those responsible have no regard for public safety and there is real concern that such a fire could easily spread and endanger lives.

"We are advising residents to keep an eye on their own vehicles as well as watching out for any suspicious behaviour around other vehicles in the area."

The second deliberate fire occurred at 6.07 hrs on Wednesday 11 April on the B4500 in Chirk near Wrexham where a 33,000 volt electrical pole installation was set alight, with thieves attempting to escape with valuable metal.

Andy Robb said: "This type of criminal behaviour puts not only the lives of those carrying out the activity at risk but also the lives of firefighters attempting to extinguish the fire as well as any members of the public who may attempt to tackle such a fire. I would ask people to stay well away from electrical fires of this nature and to contact the fire and rescue service.

"We are working closely with local policing teams to combat deliberate firestarting - arson is a serious crime and in conjunction with North Wales Police we will pursue prosecutions."

Anyone with information in relation to deliberate firestarters is urged to contact North Wales Police on 101 or anonymously via Crime stoppers on 0800 555 111.
