Nefyn fire station will hold an open evening for retained firefighters at the fire station on Tuesday 13th September starting at 7.00pm. The evening will offer the chance for local people to chat with serving firefighters and learn how a retained fire station serves the community.
"We are looking for suitable people who can reach their local fire station within six minutes of receiving a call during the daytime hours. Retained personnel are community firefighters providing essential fire and emergency cover for their Fire Station's area," explains Glyn Jones, County Operations Manager for North Gwynedd.
In addition to their normal jobs where they might be builders, shopkeepers, factory workers, nurses or housewives, retained firefighters are available to attend emergency incidents as and when required.
They are fully trained, highly skilled personnel, saving lives and property from fire. Retained firefighters also provide expertise at road, rail and aircraft crashes, chemical spillage, flooding, forest, heathland and mountain fires, agricultural accidents and animal rescues.
Mr Jones adds, "We are looking for both male and female recruits who are enthusiastic and can demonstrate common sense, commitment and dedication to serve during the daytime hours at Rhyl fire station."
They will join a close-knit, highly trained team working with modern, hi-tech equipment.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old, possessing a good standard of physical fitness and have the ability to pass aptitude tests.
In addition to their monthly retaining fees, payments are made for turnouts, attendance and drill nights.
Employers are aware of the essential role of retained fire and rescue service within local communities and many release staff to carry out firefighting and other emergency duties.
Anybody who is interested in a career as a retained firefighter in Nefyn, but is unable to attend the Open Evenings can call 01745 535 250.
