Emergency Text Contact Service

North Wales Fire & Rescue Service is committed to reaching out and communicating with their respective communities. As a 999 organisation we are aware that in the event of an emergency many people who are deaf, hard of hearing or speech impaired may have difficulty in contacting the Fire and Rescue Service

Therefore we've implemented an Emergency Text Contact facility whereby registered users from the above target groups can use mobile phone technology to contact the Fire and Rescue Service in an emergency. Registered users will access the Emergency Text Contact Service in order to send an emergency text message to a dedicated short code number (88365) that will be answered by a Fire and Rescue Service Control

Below is the step by step procedure that registered users will need to adopt to send a text message to their fire service in an emergency:

  • 1. Your text message must start with 'Fire'

  • 2. What is the emergency?
    What is on fire?
Or is there a life risk from a
road traffic accident or other emergency?
    Where is the emergency?
Street or road name. House number,
    Town/Village, Postcode. Any landmark?
    Motorway junction?

  • 3. Send the text message to the dedicated
    short code number 88365

  • 4. Keep the mobile phone switched on.
If a Fire and Rescue Service text reply is not received
requesting additional information or to confirm assistance
is on its way make alternative arrangements
to contact the Fire and Rescue Service.

For more information please click on the links to download a pdf user guide of the new Emergency Text Contact facility and obtain details of how to register to use it.

IMPORTANT: This facility is only available for the deaf, hard of hearing or speech impaired communities and should only be used to contact the fire and rescue service during an emergency.

Unlike regular 999 telephone calls, text messages to the fire and rescue service are not prioritised by the mobile network operators. Cost of Emergency Text Contact messages are between 10 pence and 15 pence dependent upon the prevailing mobile tariff.
