Rhyl Community Fire Station

Rhyl has its own community fire station!

The new community fire station is a fully operational fire station, and also offers a range of community facilities including meeting rooms, which can be hired out by local groups or businesses.

The Background:

At a meeting in July 2007, Denbighshire County Council approved plans for the first purpose built facility of its kind in Wales.

The Community Fire Station allows the Service to become more accessible to the public, raising the profile of our community work, helping in developing partnerships with other agencies and assisting in extending our work with young people.

By offering facilities such as meeting rooms and office space, it helps us to reach members of the community that previously may not have been reaching from within our target groups.

These new facilities have been created for community use:

- 50-60 seater multi-purpose room with facilities for use as a lecture room or meeting room.
- Other rooms with facilities for use as a meeting/lecture room
- Reception area with computers for community use.
- Viewing area of appliance room
- Digital display screen to project community safety messages that can be read by the passing public
- Adequate parking
- Disabled facilities

All lecture rooms have have full I.T functions (digital projector, video conferencing facilities and sound systems)

Who could use the facilities:

- Local voluntary groups and organisations
- Other agencies
- Community Safety groups
- Cubs, Brownies etc
- Other public organisations
- Local playgroups
- Local schools

The following work has been undertaken on the operational side of the station:

- Existing garages (gym area), workshop and adjacent garages, BA room, hose room and adjoining garages have been re- sited
- New locker room with shower and changing facilities
- New individual study/rest rooms
- New purpose built Young Firefighters Association (YFA) locker room with white board facility and direct access to training yard.
- New BA room, hose room and storage facilities located within appliance room
- New fire kit area which has secure storage for all fire kit, along with cleaning and drying facilities
- New mess room with recreation room
- New gym
- New appliance wash area
