Our Community Fire Safety department provides the link between fire stations and our partners in community safety.
We work with other agencies and organisations to reach individuals and groups who are at increased risk from fire. For example, by working closely with agencies such as Help the Aged and Age Concern, we identify elderly people who may be at risk. We carry out free Home Fire Safety Checks and supply and install smoke alarms where necessary.
In close partnership with The Prince's Trust and the Youth Offending Teams, we are also involved in various schemes and projects with young people to educate them about fire, in an effort to reduce malicious calls and deliberate fires. To support this aim, the Service has also started a comprehensive educational training programme with school pupils across North Wales.
The Community Fire Safety department was set up in 1998 to run fire safety initiatives across North Wales and to support locally driven campaigns. The Department includes two watch managers, two crew managers and a control operator.
