Local Businesses get clued up on fire safety

Posted

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service are encouraging any businesses with fire safety questions or queries to get in touch after the extremely positive response from local businesses involved in the 'Estates Excellence' project.

The Estates Excellence Initiative was run with the support of the Wrexham and Deeside Health & Safety Forums, delivered through the North East Wales Strategic Business Parks Project and involved over 90 companies from both industrial estates attending a number of bite size presentations on the many topics linked to Health and Safety.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service were a strategic part of the programme and provided a number of presentations to companies highlighting their requirements to comply with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order, how to carry out risk assessments, and signposting businesses to the Service's own, free, web based support documentation.

A number of high profile agencies and partnerships were involved, such as the Health & Safety Executive, Public Health Wales, Flintshire County Council, Wrexham County Borough Council,DeesideCollege,YaleCollege,GlyndwrUniversityand the Strategic Business Parks Project.

Business Education Manager Richard Evans explains: "We must thank the Estates Excellence team and our partner organisations for inviting us to promote the importance of small and medium enterprises (SME's) complying with the Fire Safety Order and to address any concerns or difficulties they may have.

"We identified a number of businesses that did not have fire risk assessments in place and we assisted and signposted them to the relevant guidance and documentation to help them to comply, this is the first part of fire safety legislation process, educating and informing. Through this valuable initiative we have been in contact with many businesses and have further strengthened links with partnership agencies."
